AIF-C01 Practice Question 53: Multimodal Image and Text Input

AWS Certified AI Practitioner (AIF-C01) · Test 6 · question 3 of 10

Fundamentals of GenAIeasy

A retailer wants shoppers to upload a photo of a garment and ask a question about it in the same request, "is this available in other colours?", and get a written answer back. The team wants a single Amazon Bedrock model call rather than a pipeline of separate services. Which type of model do they need?

Answer:

  • A. A multimodal understanding model that takes image and text input and returns text, such as Amazon Nova Pro

Multimodal means the model accepts more than one kind of input. Amazon Nova's *understanding* models (Premier, Pro and Lite) list Text, Image, Video as input modalities and Text as the output modality, and AWS names interactive chat interfaces among their use cases. One call carries both the photo and the question, and the answer comes back as text (option A).

- B is wrong because Amazon Nova Canvas is a *creative* model: it generates an image from a prompt. The retailer already has the image and wants words back, which is the opposite direction. - C is wrong because an embedding model produces a numeric vector, not an answer. Embeddings power semantic search and retrieval; on their own they cannot respond to a shopper. - D is wrong because Amazon Nova Micro's input modality is Text only. It is genuinely the lowest-latency, lowest-cost option in the family, but it cannot accept the photograph at all.
