AIF-C01 Practice Question 7: RAG Changing Internal Docs

AWS Certified AI Practitioner (AIF-C01) · Test 1 · question 7 of 10

Applications of Foundation Modelsmedium

An HR department wants a generative AI assistant that answers employee questions using the company's internal policy documents. The policies are updated every few weeks, answers must reflect the latest version, and each answer should show which document it came from. What is the most suitable approach?

Answer:

  • A. Use retrieval-augmented generation, retrieving relevant passages from an indexed copy of the policies and adding them to the prompt

Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) looks up the passages most relevant to a question in an external data source and adds them to the prompt, so the model answers from that content. When a policy changes, you only re-index the documents; the model isn't retrained. Because the answer is grounded in specific retrieved passages, the application can cite its sources (option A). Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases is the managed way to build this on AWS.

- B is wrong because fine-tuning costs time and money on every change, the model can still misstate what it learned, and it can't cite the document behind an answer. - C is wrong because pre-training from scratch is the most expensive option by far and goes out of date just as quickly. - D is wrong because an instruction alone doesn't give the model the policy content. It would answer from its general training data and could hallucinate.
