AIF-C01 Practice Question 95: GAN Generator Discriminator

AWS Certified AI Practitioner (AIF-C01) · Test 10 · question 5 of 10

Fundamentals of GenAImedium

A team is training an image synthesis model built from two neural networks. One network produces candidate images. The other network tries to tell those candidates apart from real photographs. Each network improves because it is trying to beat the other. Which type of generative model is this?

Answer:

  • C. Generative adversarial network (GAN)

A GAN pairs a generator with a discriminator. AWS explains that *"the generator attempts to maximize the probability of mistake by the discriminator, but the discriminator attempts to minimize the probability of error."* This adversarial competition drives both networks to improve, and it matches the two-network description in the stem (option C).

- A is wrong because a VAE has an encoder that compresses data into a latent distribution and a decoder that reconstructs it. The two parts cooperate rather than compete. - B is wrong because a diffusion model learns to remove noise step by step, starting from random noise. It does not use a competing discriminator. - D is wrong because an autoregressive transformer generates a sequence one token at a time by predicting the next token. It is not trained against a second network.
