SAA-C03 Practice Question 44: S3 Cross Region Replication
AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (SAA-C03) · Test 5 · question 4 of 10
A regulator requires that a bucket's objects exist in a second AWS Region, that new objects appear there automatically within minutes of being written, and that a deletion in the source Region does not remove the copy. The bucket currently has Versioning disabled.
What should the solutions architect configure?

Answer:
Cross-Region Replication copies newly written objects to a bucket in another Region asynchronously, typically within minutes, which satisfies the first two requirements. It requires Versioning on both the source and destination buckets, so enabling it is a prerequisite rather than an optional extra. The third requirement is met by how CRR handles deletes: with delete marker replication turned off, a delete in the source adds a delete marker there and the replica in the destination Region is untouched. S3 never replicates the permanent deletion of a version, so the copy survives.
Option A moves objects between storage classes. A lifecycle rule operates within a bucket and does not copy anything to another Region.
Option C meets the durability goal but not the timing one. A nightly task leaves up to 24 hours in which a new object exists in only one Region, against a requirement of minutes.
Option D is neither replication nor automatic. Transfer Acceleration speeds uploads over long distances, and making clients write twice puts correctness in the hands of every writer; a missed write silently breaks the guarantee.
