SOA-C02 Practice Question 4: AWS Backup Cross Region Copy
AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate (SOA-C02) · Test 1 · question 4 of 10
A compliance policy requires that backups of all Amazon EBS volumes and Amazon RDS databases in us-east-1 also exist in eu-west-1, with a 90-day retention period enforced on the copies. The company already protects these resources with an AWS Backup plan and wants the smallest amount of ongoing operational effort.
Which action satisfies the requirement?
Show answer and explanation
Answer:
AWS Backup supports cross-Region copy natively. A backup plan rule can carry one or more copy actions, each naming a destination backup vault in another Region and its own lifecycle and retention settings. Every time the rule runs, AWS Backup creates the recovery point and then copies it, so the requirement is met with a configuration change and no custom code.
Option A recreates functionality AWS Backup already provides. The Lambda function, its permissions, its error handling, and its retention pruning all become the team's responsibility, the opposite of minimal operational effort.
Option B is based on a false premise. EBS and RDS snapshots are not stored in a customer-visible S3 bucket, so S3 Cross-Region Replication cannot act on them.
Option C is expensive and fragile. Restoring a volume or database instance just to snapshot it again consumes compute and storage, takes far longer than a snapshot copy, and produces a point-in-time copy that lags the original recovery point.
