AZ-104 Practice Question 43: Premium File Shares Account
Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) · Test 5 · question 3 of 10
A Linux analytics cluster needs a shared file system mounted over NFS 4.1, with consistently low latency and protection against the loss of a single availability zone in the primary region.
You are creating the storage account that will host the share. Which account type should you choose?
Show answer and explanation
Answer:
Two requirements point to the same account type. On protocol, Microsoft is explicit: "if you want support for network file system (NFS) in Azure Files, use the premium file shares account type", which is the account type to pick "if you want a storage account that supports both Server Message Block (SMB) and NFS file shares". On performance, premium accounts "use solid-state drives (SSDs) for low latency and high throughput". Premium file share accounts support LRS and ZRS, and ZRS covers the zone-failure requirement. Get this right the first time: "you can't change a storage account to a different type after it's created."
Option A cannot host an NFS share. A standard general-purpose v2 account supports Azure Files, but the NFS protocol requires the premium file shares account type; the tier of an individual share does not change that.
Option C is the premium account for the wrong service. Premium block blobs supports Blob Storage only, so there is no file share to mount.
Option D is a retired account type that Microsoft advises upgrading away from, it supports only LRS/GRS/RA-GRS, no zone redundancy, and it is standard performance, failing both stated requirements.
