AZ-104 Practice Question 70: Alert Processing Rule Maintenance

Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) · Test 7 · question 10 of 10

Monitoring & Backupmedium

A subscription contains about 100 Azure Monitor alert rules. Planned maintenance will run on Saturday from 22:00 to 02:00, and during that time the on-call team should not receive notifications. The alerts should still be recorded so that they can be reviewed afterwards, and the administrator does not want to edit each alert rule.

What should the administrator create?

Answer:

  • A. An alert processing rule scoped to the subscription that suppresses notifications on a one-time schedule

Alert processing rules modify alerts after they fire. One with the Suppress notifications action, scoped to the subscription and given a one-time schedule for the maintenance window, stops the action groups from running for every alert in scope during that time. The alerts themselves are still generated and stored, so they can be reviewed later, and no alert rule needs to change.

Option B stops the alerts from being evaluated at all, so nothing is recorded during the window. It also means 100 edits before and 100 edits after, which is the manual work to avoid.

Option C removes the notification path for every alert rule that uses the group, including alerts outside the window if the timing slips, and the group must be rebuilt from scratch, which is fragile and error-prone.

Option D misuses Azure Policy. Policy governs how resources are configured and deployed; it does not control whether Azure Monitor sends notifications for an alert.
