AZ-305 Practice Question 66: AKS Persistent Volume Backup
Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) · Test 7 · question 6 of 10
A stateful application runs on AKS and stores data on persistent volumes backed by Azure Disks. The team needs scheduled backups of both the Kubernetes resources and the volume data, with retention managed in a Backup vault and the option to restore to the original cluster or to a different cluster in the same region.
What should you use?
Show answer and explanation
Answer:
Azure Backup for AKS backs up cluster workloads and persistent volumes on CSI-driven Azure Disks and Azure Files. It uses the Backup extension installed in the cluster and stores its policy and recovery points through a Backup vault. Restores can go to the original cluster or to an alternate cluster in the same subscription and region.
Option B replicates node virtual machines. AKS nodes are managed by the service, and a replica of a node does not capture cluster resources or restore application state in the cluster.
Option C backs up the node machines, which are disposable infrastructure. It neither captures the Kubernetes objects nor gives a supported way to restore the persistent volumes into a cluster.
Option D is not possible. The control plane is managed by Azure, so customers do not have access to the etcd nodes.
