CLF-C02 Practice Question 33: Database Migration
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) · Test 4 · question 3 of 10
An online retailer is moving its on-premises MySQL database to Amazon Aurora MySQL. The store must keep taking orders during the migration, and the final cutover can take no more than a few minutes. Which AWS service should the company use to move the data?
Show answer and explanation
Answer:
AWS DMS migrates relational databases, data warehouses, NoSQL databases and other data stores into AWS. Besides one-time migrations, it can replicate ongoing changes to keep the source and target in sync. The source database keeps serving orders while the bulk of the data is copied, DMS applies each new change to Aurora, and the company switches over once the two match, so downtime is limited to the short cutover.
Option A, AWS Application Migration Service, rehosts whole servers into Amazon EC2 ("lift and shift"). It would give the company a MySQL server running on EC2, not a migration into the managed Aurora service. Option B, AWS Migration Hub, gives one place to track the progress of migrations across tools, but it does not move any data itself. Option C, AWS SCT, converts a database schema and code objects when you change to a different database engine. MySQL to Aurora MySQL uses the same engine, and SCT does not copy the data rows in any case.
