CLF-C02 Practice Question 53: Data Center Costs
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) · Test 6 · question 3 of 10
A company plans to close its leased data center and move every workload onto Amazon EC2 and other AWS services. When building its cost comparison, which of these costs does the company stop paying for directly after the move?
Show answer and explanation
Answer:
One of the six advantages of cloud computing is to stop spending money running and maintaining data centers. AWS takes on the heavy lifting of racking, stacking and powering servers, so the company can focus on its customers. The facility costs (power, cooling, physical space) and the hardware lifecycle become part of the AWS service the company pays for by usage, rather than bills it pays itself. Even with a database on EC2, power, network and cooling are AWS's responsibility.
Option A does not go away. The company still has to license the commercial software it runs, either by bringing its own licenses or by paying for license-included usage. Option B does not go away either: the cloud removes infrastructure work, but the company still has to build and maintain its own applications. Option D is a cost that *appears* rather than disappears: AWS charges for data transferred out to the internet, so it is a line to add to the comparison.
