CLF-C02 Practice Question 59: Serverless Containers
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) · Test 6 · question 9 of 10
A team has packaged a long-running web API as Docker containers and wants to run it on Amazon ECS. The team does not want to choose server types, patch operating systems, or scale a cluster of Amazon EC2 instances for the containers to run on. What should the team use?
Show answer and explanation
Answer:
AWS Fargate is serverless compute for containers. Used with Amazon ECS, it runs containers without the need to manage servers or clusters of EC2 instances. You don't choose server types, decide when to scale a cluster, or optimize how containers are packed onto instances. You specify the CPU and memory each task needs, and AWS runs it. Each Fargate task also gets its own isolation boundary.
Option A automates *adding and removing* instances, but the team would still be choosing instance types and patching and running those EC2 container instances. That is the work it wants to avoid. Option C, Amazon ECR, is a registry that *stores* container images; it does not run them. Option D, AWS Batch, runs batch computing jobs that start, process and finish. It is not designed to keep a web API running continuously.
