CLF-C02 Practice Question 67: Network Transit Hub
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) · Test 7 · question 7 of 10
A company has 30 VPCs in one Region and two on-premises data centers. Today the VPCs are linked by dozens of individual VPC peering connections, and each data center has its own VPN connections to several VPCs. The network team finds this very hard to manage. It wants a central hub that each VPC and each on-premises connection attaches to only once. Which AWS service should it use?
Show answer and explanation
Answer:
AWS Transit Gateway is a network transit hub that interconnects VPCs and on-premises networks. Each VPC, VPN connection or Direct Connect gateway is added as an *attachment* to the transit gateway, and transit gateway route tables decide where traffic goes. Instead of a connection between every pair of networks, each network connects once to the hub. This hub-and-spoke design is what makes a large network manageable again.
Option A makes the problem worse. VPC peering connects exactly two VPCs and does not route traffic onward through a third, so a full mesh of 30 VPCs needs hundreds of peering connections. Option B, AWS PrivateLink, privately exposes a specific *service* to consumers in other VPCs. It does not route traffic between whole networks. Option D, AWS Direct Connect, is a dedicated private link between on-premises and AWS. It could replace the VPNs, but it is not a hub for connecting 30 VPCs to each other, and it would itself attach to a transit gateway in this design.
