NVIDIA AI certifications 2026: GenAI, agentic and infra

Updated 5 November 2026 · 11 min read

NVIDIA AI certifications are proctored NVIDIA-Certified Associate (NCA) and NVIDIA-Certified Professional (NCP) exams, not a certificate you receive merely for finishing a Deep Learning Institute course. Start with the Associate closest to your day-to-day work, then move to a Professional exam only when you have the recommended practical experience.

This guide maps the generative AI, agentic AI and infrastructure choices, including the status of each exam, its format and its price. It also separates training certificates from formal certifications, explains where free official preparation fits, and gives a role-based starting point for developers, ML engineers and data-centre staff.

How NVIDIA's certifications are organised

NVIDIA uses two levels in the tracks covered here. Associate exams establish foundational skills and suit people entering a specialty; Professional exams target people already applying those skills to AI systems, clusters or networks. Neither level has a prerequisite certification, but the Professional pages recommend relevant hands-on experience.

The catalogue is easier to navigate by the work you want to do. Generative AI covers LLM and multimodal applications; AI models and agentic AI cover building and running applications; and infrastructure covers the GPU environment beneath them. The distinctions matter more than a generic search for an NVIDIA AI certification because the operational exams assess a very different job from an LLM application exam. Every credential in this guide is valid for two years from issue. NVIDIA reports results as pass/fail and does not publish a numeric pass mark, so use the published topic areas and sample questions rather than trying to study to an unofficial threshold.

NVIDIA generative AI certifications

The generative AI track is the direct route for someone working with LLMs or multimodal models. The Associate exams assume basic generative-AI and LLM knowledge, while the Professional LLM exam is for practitioners who design, fine-tune, optimise and scale production systems. All three had working registration links when checked in November 2026.

  • NVIDIA-Certified Associate: Generative AI LLMs. Code: NCA-GENL. Level: Associate. Who it's for: developers and professionals deploying LLM applications. Questions and minutes: 50 to 60 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, as of November 2026. Price: US$125, as of November 2026. Status: live and registerable through NVIDIA's NCA-GENL page.
  • NVIDIA-Certified Associate: Generative AI Multimodal. Code: NCA-GENM. Level: Associate. Who it's for: developers and professionals deploying multimodal AI. Questions and minutes: 50 to 60 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, as of November 2026. Price: US$125, as of November 2026. Status: live and registerable through NVIDIA's NCA-GENM page.
  • NVIDIA-Certified Professional: Generative AI LLMs. Code: NCP-GENL. Level: Professional. Who it's for: experienced practitioners designing, fine-tuning, optimising and scaling production LLM systems. Questions and minutes: 60 to 70 questions in 120 minutes, as of November 2026. Price: US$200, as of November 2026. Status: live and registerable through NVIDIA's NCP-GENL page.

Choose NCA-GENL when your work is text-based LLM applications, and choose NCA-GENM when the multimodal focus matches your work. NCP-GENL is not simply the next badge: NVIDIA recommends two to three years of applied AI or ML experience with LLMs and transformer architectures. Its blueprint emphasises optimisation, GPU work, fine-tuning and prompts, while the Associate blueprints give topic lists rather than percentage weights.

Retrieval is a useful boundary between knowing LLM concepts and building a reliable application. The RAG versus fine-tuning guide helps you decide whether changing the context pipeline or the model is the appropriate response to a product problem.

NVIDIA agentic AI and AI application development

This track has an Associate option for model and application work and a Professional agentic AI option. It is a better match than infrastructure credentials when you customise, serve or consume models in an enterprise application. For a comparison of agent-focused credentials beyond NVIDIA, see the agentic AI certification guide.

  • NVIDIA-Certified Associate: AI Models and Application Development. Code: NCA-AMAD. Level: Associate. Who it's for: entry-level AI developers customising, deploying and serving AI models and agentic systems in enterprise applications. Questions and minutes: 50 to 60 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, as of November 2026. Price: US$125, as of November 2026. Status: live and registerable through NVIDIA's NCA-AMAD page.
  • NVIDIA-Certified Professional: Agentic AI. Code: NCP-AAI. Level: Professional. Who it's for: software developers, engineers, solutions architects, ML engineers, data scientists and AI specialists building agentic AI solutions. Questions and minutes: 60 to 70 questions in 120 minutes, as of November 2026. Price: US$200, as of November 2026. Status: NVIDIA's page shows a working "Register for Exam" link (checked 5 November 2026), though its page source still carries a hidden "Coming soon" note, so confirm the exam on Certiverse before you plan around a date.

NCA-AMAD covers agentic AI, data processing, inference, model customisation, model types, blueprints, sizing and physical AI. NCP-AAI goes deeper into architecture and development, plus evaluation, deployment, memory, knowledge and data, safety and oversight. Its page recommends one to two years in AI or ML roles and production-level agentic AI experience, which is a good reason to build and assess agent applications before booking it.

AI infrastructure and operations

The infrastructure sequence starts with a broad Associate credential and then splits according to whether you bring up clusters, operate them, run their network, or install their physical components. The older NCA-AIDC (AI in the Data Center) page no longer exists, so study from the NCA-AIIO blueprint, not legacy material. The five entries below are live as checked in November 2026.

  • NVIDIA-Certified Associate: AI Infrastructure and Operations. Code: NCA-AIIO. Level: Associate. Who it's for: IT professionals new to AI computing, from technical pre-sales to enterprise data-centre and on-premises operations. Questions and minutes: 50 questions in 60 minutes, as of November 2026. Price: US$125, as of November 2026. Status: live and registerable through NVIDIA's NCA-AIIO page.
  • NVIDIA-Certified Professional: AI Infrastructure. Code: NCP-AII. Level: Professional. Who it's for: professionals deploying, configuring, validating and maintaining advanced AI infrastructure in complex GPU environments. Questions and minutes: 70 to 75 questions in 120 minutes, as of November 2026. Price: US$400, as of November 2026. Status: live and registerable through NVIDIA's NCP-AII page.
  • NVIDIA-Certified Professional: AI Operations. Code: NCP-AIO. Level: Professional. Who it's for: professionals managing and maintaining data-centre AI infrastructure, administering clusters, scheduling workloads and optimising GPU resources. Questions and minutes: 30 multiple-choice questions plus 3 hands-on labs in 120 minutes, as of November 2026. Price: US$500, as of November 2026. Status: live and registerable through NVIDIA's NCP-AIO page.
  • NVIDIA-Certified Professional: AI Networking. Code: NCP-AIN. Level: Professional. Who it's for: network and infrastructure engineers deploying, configuring, managing and troubleshooting NVIDIA networking infrastructure for AI workloads. Questions and minutes: 70 to 75 questions in 120 minutes, as of November 2026. Price: US$500, as of November 2026. Status: live and registerable through NVIDIA's NCP-AIN page.
  • NVIDIA-Certified Professional: AI Rack and Interconnect. Code: NCP-ARI. Level: Professional. Who it's for: data-centre infrastructure technicians staging, racking, powering, cabling and validating high-density AI clusters. Questions and minutes: 70 questions in 120 minutes, as of November 2026. Price: US$400, as of November 2026. Status: live and registerable through NVIDIA's NCP-ARI page.

NCA-AIIO covers essential AI knowledge, AI infrastructure and AI operations, so it is the on-ramp if AI computing is new to you. The Professional blueprints narrow sharply: NCP-AII emphasises cluster testing and system bring-up, NCP-AIO installation, administration and workload management, NCP-AIN Spectrum and InfiniBand networking, and NCP-ARI cabling and physical preparation. NVIDIA recommends two to three years of relevant experience for the first three Professional infrastructure roles and two or more years for the rack-and-interconnect role.

DLI course certificates vs certifications

A DLI course certificate records completion of a training course. An NCA or NCP certification is earned by registering for, and passing, a separate proctored exam. They can complement each other, but completing a course does not convert it into an Associate or Professional credential.

That distinction affects both your CV and your study plan. Use DLI courses or workshops to learn the relevant tools, then use the official exam blueprint to confirm what the certification actually covers. Do not pay for a course on the assumption that its completion certificate is the formal NVIDIA AI certification.

Format, scoring, price and renewal

Exam formats and prices in this guide are as of November 2026. NVIDIA delivers exams online with remote proctoring through Certiverse; in-person delivery is also accommodated through NVIDIA Authorized Training Partner locations. Associate exams cost US$125, while the Professional prices listed above range from US$200 to US$500; NVIDIA's India site shows the same dollar prices and no INR prices.

NVIDIA gives a pass/fail result and doesn't publish a pass mark; NCP-AIO is the exception that adds a per-section score report. Certifications last two years, and you recertify by passing the current exam again; the policy has a 14-day wait between retakes and permits up to five attempts in a year. The NVIDIA certification directory is the place to recheck these details before booking.

Free official preparation includes sample questions on the application-development and infrastructure exam pages. NVIDIA also offers free study-guide material for NCP-GENL and NCP-AAI, while the recommended DLI courses are paid. Build study time around the stated audience and domains: application evaluation and data for agentic work, LLM optimisation for NCP-GENL, or the exact cluster, operations, networking or physical layer for infrastructure work.

There is no NVIDIA question bank on this site. The closest practice is the Databricks GenAI Engineer Associate cert page and its practice-question bank, which cover adjacent RAG, vector-search, agent and evaluation decisions rather than claiming to reproduce an NVIDIA exam.

For agent design, use a practice question on selecting an agent approach for cited document answers to explain the option before looking at the answer. For retrieval quality, a practice question on fixing chunks that exceed an embedding limit is a practical check on the connection between chunking and useful context.

When an answer is wrong, distinguish a retrieval problem from a generation problem: a practice question on diagnosing hallucinations with traces gives you that habit. For retrieval that needs both meaning and exact identifiers, a practice question on hybrid search for part numbers is a useful companion to the application-development topics.

Which NVIDIA AI certification to take first

Pick the first exam from the job you are preparing for, not from the most impressive-sounding title. Associate credentials give a safer first assessment when the relevant AI specialty is new, while a Professional exam can be a first NVIDIA credential if you already meet its recommended experience.

  • LLM application developer: start with NCA-GENL for text-based LLM work. Add NCA-AMAD if model serving, customisation and enterprise applications are central to your role; move to NCP-GENL only after the recommended production LLM experience. Consider NCP-AAI once you have production agent experience, and confirm it on Certiverse before booking.
  • ML engineer: start with NCA-GENL if you need a foundation in deployed LLM applications. Choose NCP-GENL instead only when you already have the recommended two to three years of applied LLM and transformer work; its optimisation, GPU and fine-tuning focus will then match better than a general Associate exam.
  • Platform or infrastructure engineer: start with NCA-AIIO when AI infrastructure is new to you. Follow with NCP-AII for deployment and validation, NCP-AIO for running clusters, or NCP-AIN when your responsibility is the network rather than the whole platform.
  • Data-centre technician: take NCA-AIIO first if you need the AI-computing foundation. If you already have the recommended experience with high-density infrastructure, fibre optics and optical transceivers, NCP-ARI is the role-specific Professional choice.

NVIDIA vs cloud AI certifications

NVIDIA credentials are most specific when your target work involves GPUs, AI clusters, networking, model optimisation or NVIDIA's application stack. Cloud-vendor AI certifications instead tend to validate the managed services and platform decisions of that vendor. Neither is automatically better: choose the technology that the job, team or platform actually uses.

For a broad market comparison, see the best AI certifications. If your goal is a production LLM or RAG application rather than NVIDIA infrastructure, the Databricks Generative AI Engineer Associate guide is the closer comparison, especially alongside the practice bank above.

Frequently asked questions

What are NVIDIA certifications?

NVIDIA certifications are formal Associate and Professional credentials earned through proctored exams. The tracks here cover generative AI, agentic AI and AI infrastructure and operations. They are different from a DLI course completion certificate, which records training rather than passing a separate certification exam.

What is the NVIDIA Generative AI certification?

There is not one single generative AI exam. NCA-GENL is the Associate LLM credential, NCA-GENM is the Associate multimodal credential, and NCP-GENL is the Professional LLM credential. Choose the Associate that matches the kind of application you deploy, unless your experience already matches the Professional recommendation.

How much do NVIDIA certification exams cost?

As of November 2026, Associate exams in this guide cost US$125. NCP-GENL and NCP-AAI are US$200, NCP-AII and NCP-ARI are US$400, and NCP-AIO and NCP-AIN are US$500. NVIDIA's India site shows the same dollar prices and no INR, so don't rely on an unofficial rupee conversion.

Are there prerequisites for NVIDIA AI certifications?

There is no required prior certification for the Associate or Professional exams covered here. The recommendations still matter: the Professional LLM and infrastructure exams expect relevant applied experience, and NCP-AAI recommends one to two years in AI or ML roles plus production-level agentic work. Start with the Associate when those recommendations do not yet describe your experience.

What is NVIDIA agentic AI certification?

NCP-AAI is NVIDIA-Certified Professional: Agentic AI, intended for people building agentic AI solutions. NVIDIA's page showed a working registration link on 5 November 2026, though its page source still carries a hidden "Coming soon" note, so confirm it on Certiverse before booking. NCA-AMAD is the live Associate alternative that includes agentic systems.

How long are NVIDIA certifications valid?

NVIDIA certifications are valid for two years from issue. Renewal requires passing the current exam again, and the policy requires a 14-day pause between retakes. NVIDIA does not publish a numeric passing score, so renewal preparation should follow the current official blueprint.
