CLF-C02 Practice Question 116: Centralized Backups
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) · Test 12 · question 6 of 10
A company backs up its Amazon EBS volumes, Amazon RDS databases, Amazon DynamoDB tables and Amazon EFS file systems using a different script for each service. It wants a single service where it can define backup schedules and retention in backup plans, apply them to resources by tag, and copy backups to another AWS Region. Which service should it use?
Show answer and explanation
Answer:
AWS Backup is a fully managed service to centralize and automate data protection across AWS services, replacing backup tasks previously done service by service with custom scripts. You define backup plans with schedules and retention, assign resources to them, including by tag, and can copy backups across AWS Regions and across accounts in AWS Organizations. It supports EBS, RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, EFS, FSx, S3 and more, and AWS Backup Vault Lock can make backups immutable.
Option B, Amazon Data Lifecycle Manager, automates the creation, retention and deletion of EBS snapshots and EBS-backed AMIs. It doesn't cover RDS, DynamoDB or EFS. Option C copies objects between S3 buckets in different Regions. It doesn't back up databases, volumes or file systems. Option D connects on-premises applications to AWS storage. It isn't a central backup service for AWS resources.
