CLF-C02 Practice Question 63: Customer Sign in
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) · Test 7 · question 3 of 10
A startup is building a mobile fitness app. Its customers must be able to sign up and sign in with an email address and password, or with their existing Google or Apple accounts, and optionally turn on multi-factor authentication. The developers do not want to build and secure their own user directory. Which AWS service should they use?
Show answer and explanation
Answer:
Amazon Cognito is an identity platform for web and mobile apps. A Cognito user pool is a managed user directory with sign-up and sign-in, and it can federate with consumer identity providers such as Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon. It supports multi-factor authentication, so the app gets a complete customer sign-in system without the developers building one. If the app later needs to call AWS services directly, a Cognito identity pool can give signed-in users temporary AWS credentials.
Option A, IAM Identity Center, is for an organization's *workforce*, giving employees access to AWS accounts and applications. It is not a sign-up system for an app's customers. Option B misuses IAM: IAM users are identities that manage an AWS account. Creating one for each app customer would not scale and would hand customers AWS credentials. Option D, AWS Directory Service, provides managed Microsoft Active Directory for corporate, Windows-based workloads. It is not built for consumer sign-up with social logins.
