CLF-C02 Practice Question 79: Real Time Streaming
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) · Test 8 · question 9 of 10
An e-commerce website wants to capture clickstream events from millions of shoppers continuously and make them available for processing within about a second. Two separate applications, a live dashboard and a recommendation engine, must each read the same stream of events independently. Which AWS service should collect the events?
Show answer and explanation
Answer:
Amazon Kinesis Data Streams collects and processes large streams of data records in real time. Web clickstream data is one of its typical use cases. A record put into a stream can typically be retrieved in less than a second. Multiple applications can consume the same stream concurrently and independently, for example one computing running aggregates for a dashboard while another archives or analyzes the data.
Option A, Amazon SQS, is a message queue. A consumer processes a message and then deletes it, so two applications cannot each read every event from one queue the way they can from a stream. Option C, Amazon Redshift, is a data warehouse for analytical queries over stored data, not an ingestion service for continuous event streams. Option D, Amazon Athena, runs SQL queries against data that is already stored in Amazon S3. It does not collect streaming events as they happen.
