CLF-C02 Practice Question 80: Guaranteed Capacity
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) · Test 8 · question 10 of 10
A retailer expects a huge spike in traffic on one sales day each year. It must be certain it can launch 200 instances of a specific EC2 instance type in a specific Availability Zone that day. It wants to set this up a few days before the event, release it afterwards, and not make a one-year or three-year commitment. Which option meets these requirements?
Show answer and explanation
Answer:
On-Demand Capacity Reservations reserve EC2 capacity for a specific instance type in a specific Availability Zone, for any duration. A reservation for immediate use has no term commitment: the retailer can create it a few days before the sale, launch into it on the day, and cancel it afterwards to release the capacity and stop the charges. Capacity Reservations give no billing discount on their own, but they can be combined with Savings Plans or Regional Reserved Instances for one.
Option B, Regional Reserved Instances, require a fixed one-year or three-year commitment and do not reserve capacity. They only give a billing discount. Option C, Compute Savings Plans, also require a one-year or three-year commitment and give a discount without reserving any capacity. Option D, Spot Instances, run only when spare capacity is available and can be interrupted when EC2 needs it back, which is the opposite of a guarantee.
