AZ-900 Practice Question 55: Virtual Machine Resources
Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) · Test 6 · question 5 of 10
An engineer creates a single Azure virtual machine in the portal and accepts the defaults. Besides the virtual machine itself, which set of supporting resources does Azure create?
Show answer and explanation
Answer:
Microsoft documents the default resources that come with a VM, and most of them carry their own cost: a virtual network, so the VM can communicate with other resources; a virtual network interface card to connect to that network; a private IP address and sometimes a public one; a network security group to manage traffic to and from the machine; and an OS disk, with separate data disks recommended as a best practice. By default all of these are created in the same resource group as the VM.
Option A lists governance and cost constructs, none of which Azure creates on your behalf. Option C lists monitoring resources; Azure Monitor collects platform metrics for a VM without them, and a Log Analytics workspace is something you deliberately create and pay for. Option D is the most plausible wrong answer because all three are things you might well add to a VM later, but an availability set, a load balancer, and a DNS zone are opt-in choices, not defaults for a single machine.
