GCP Associate Cloud Engineer Practice Question 38: Artifact Registry Push Image
Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer · Test 4 · question 8 of 10
You built a container image on your workstation and want to store it in Google Cloud so that GKE and Cloud Run can pull it. You need a managed, private registry that is the current recommended service.
What should you do?
Show answer and explanation
Answer:
Artifact Registry is Google Cloud's managed registry for container images and other artifacts. You create a Docker format repository, run gcloud auth configure-docker REGION-docker.pkg.dev, then tag the image with the repository path and docker push it. IAM controls who can pull it.
Option B uses Container Registry, which was shut down in March 2025; gcr.io hostnames now survive only as domains served by Artifact Registry repositories. Option C stores a file that GKE and Cloud Run cannot pull as an image. Option D is not a registry, and Cloud Source Repositories is not meant to hold image layers.
